Your Road to Your Child's First Ride
Who Qualifies?
Children 21 and under who are unable to safely or independently ride a traditional bicycle due to physical, developmental, or balance challenges may qualify. Children must reside in Erie or Niagara County.
Follow these easy steps!
1
Talk to your Therapist
Speak with your provider to confirm an adaptive trike is suitable and to identify the specific features your child requires.
2
Complete the parent portion of the application
3
Complete a Trike Evaluation
Your child’s therapist will complete the clinical portion of the application, including tricycle sizing, support needs, safety considerations, goal alignment, and coordination with the TRAID Center if a trial is needed.
4
Application Review
The WNY Trendy Trikes team reviews applications to ensure they are complete and the child’s needs are met.
5
Fundraising Campaign
We create a personalized fundraising page for each applicant. Funding may come from donations, grants, sponsors, or personal fundraising efforts. Once funding is secured, the tricycle can be ordered and delivered.
6
Trike Ordered and Built
The trike is ordered and volunteers build and prepare the tricycle for the child
7
Ride, Explore, and Enjoy!
Families work with Trendy Trikes to schedule tricycle delivery. At pickup, the tricycle is fitted to the child, instructions are provided, and photos may be taken. Families should bring a vehicle large enough to transport the tricycle.
